Cloud-native modernization & production ML for FNB

Pygio helped FNB accelerate product delivery with cloud-native platform engineering and production-grade applications.

Business Requirements
FNB set out to modernize application delivery and enable containerized, cloud-native deployments — delivering core and online banking features spanning permissions, compliance UI, integration layers and online banking components.
‍
The bank also needed robust integration and API layers for internal systems and external partners, plus production-grade data pipelines for offer recommendation, risk modelling and customer value.
Solution
Pygio delivered a set of platform, application and integration solutions, adopting a cloud-native, container-first approach to improve developer velocity, resiliency and business outcomes. Key improvements we’ve helped implement:
‍
• Kubernetes-based Platform One
• Java microservices for core & online banking
• Robust API/integration layer, and ML-driven recommendation & risk systems
‍
As a result, Pygio helped FNB ship five production modules with teams ramped to production-ready in two weeks, improving speed to deliver features by 25%.

Key solution areas delivered:
  1. Core & Online Banking (applications) — implemented microservice-based Java applications and service modules for online banking, product and sales capabilities. Notable delivered components include Permissions, Fintegrate, ComplianceUI (CRS/OCEP), Selfenablement and the OASYS / “Mammoth” online-banking suite. Work covered full lifecycle delivery: design, implementation, automated testing and production handover.
    ‍
Key technical traits: Java backends, RESTful APIs, relational databases with DBA-led tuning, automated test suites and CI/CD pipelines.
    ‍
  2. Cloud-native platform & SRE (Platform One / Containerization) — delivered the bank’s platform (Platform One) vision: Kubernetes-as-a-service, a Containers COE, and a standardized containerization runbook to enable an orderly VMware → Kubernetes modernization. Platform capabilities included GitOps-based CI/CD, secrets & identity integration, CSPM/cloud security tooling, observability, and reusable platform assets for consistent deployments.
    ‍
Key technical traits: multi-cluster Kubernetes, GitOps & IaC, CI/CD pipelines, observability (metrics/tracing/logging), SRE practices, and container security integrations.
    ‍
  3. Integration & API layer — built robust integration layers and API gateways (synchronous REST & asynchronous event/queue patterns) to decouple systems, secure external interfaces, and support reliable inter-service communication (Fintegrate being a primary integration capability).
